Frankfurt stun Barça to reach semis
Eintracht Frankfurt pull off a remarkable comeback to beat Barcelona and reach the Europa League semi-finals.
The German side lost the first leg 1-0 at home but produced a stunning display at the Camp Nou to win 3-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
Frankfurt took the lead through Ansgar Knauff in the 48th minute and Rafael Borré doubled their advantage just six minutes later. Sergio Busquets pulled one back for Barcelona in the 62nd minute but Filip Kostic restored Frankfurt's two-goal lead in the 67th minute. Luuk de Jong scored a late consolation for Barcelona but it was not enough to prevent Frankfurt from progressing.
The result is a huge upset and sees Barcelona knocked out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage for the second season in a row. It is also the first time that Barcelona have lost a home match in European competition since 2013.
Frankfurt, meanwhile, will now face West Ham United in the semi-finals. The first leg will be played at the Deutsche Bank Park on April 28th, with the second leg taking place at the London Stadium on May 5th.
Conclusion
Frankfurt's victory is a testament to their fighting spirit and belief. They never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts with a famous victory. Barcelona, on the other hand, will be left to rue their missed chances and poor defending. They will now have to focus on finishing the La Liga season strongly and winning the Copa del Rey.
