Djokovic dethrones Nadal in French Open semi-final
Nadal's record-setting streak comes to an end
Djokovic advances to the final, where he will face Casper Ruud
Novak Djokovic ended Rafael Nadal's record-setting 26-set winning streak at the French Open on Friday, defeating the 13-time champion in a classic semi-final match. Djokovic won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in a match that lasted over three hours.
Nadal had not lost a set at Roland Garros since 2019, but Djokovic was simply too strong on Friday. The Serbian broke Nadal's serve six times and saved 10 of the 12 break points he faced.
Djokovic will now face Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday. Ruud defeated Marin Cilic in straight sets in the other semi-final. This will be Djokovic's 30th Grand Slam final and he will be looking to win his 21st major title.
Nadal's defeat marks the end of an era at the French Open. The Spaniard had won the tournament a record 13 times, but he has now been dethroned by Djokovic. This is a major upset, and it will be interesting to see how Nadal responds in the future.
