Fernando Alonso brought out the red flags with a heavy crash in FP3 at Imola, while Oscar Piastri was fastest during the final practice session.

Alonso lost control of his Alpine at the Variante Alta chicane and hit the barriers heavily, bringing out the red flags with just over 10 minutes of the session remaining.

The Spaniard was able to walk away from the car, but it was a heavy impact and it remains to be seen if he will be able to take part in qualifying later today.

Piastri, meanwhile, set the fastest time of the weekend so far in his McLaren, with a lap of 1:14.812.

The Australian was over half a second clear of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, while Carlos Sainz was third for Ferrari.

Qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is due to start at 15:00 BST.
