Gareth Southgate Leaves England Manager Role

After Eight Successful Years

Southgate Resigns Following Defeat by Spain

Gareth Southgate has resigned as England manager after eight years in charge following the team's defeat by Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

The 52-year-old was appointed in 2016 and led England to their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years in 2018 and their first European Championship final in 55 years in 2021.

However, England's recent form has been poor, with the team winning just one of their last six matches. Southgate's decision to step down comes after a 2-1 defeat by Italy in the Nations League third-place play-off.

In a statement, Southgate said: "It has been a privilege to manage England and I am grateful for the opportunity to have served my country in this role."

"I would like to thank the FA, the players, and the fans for their support over the past eight years."

Southgate's departure is a blow to English football, but his record as manager is one of success. He will long be remembered for guiding England to their first major tournament finals in over 50 years.
