The Los Angeles Lakers have had a long and storied history, with 26 different head coaches leading the team since joining the NBA. The franchise's first head coach was John Kundla, who coached the team from 1948 to 1958.
Recent Coaching Changes
The 2022-23 Los Angeles Lakers season saw the departure of head coach Darvin Ham and assistant coach Phil Handy after two seasons with the team. The Lakers have since named Chris Jent, Jordan Ott, JD DuBois, Schuyler Rimmer, and Zach Peterson as assistant coaches.
Assistant Coaching Staff
Chris Jent has previously worked as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, and Portland Trail Blazers. Jordan Ott joins the Lakers from the Memphis Grizzlies, where he served as an assistant coach for the past four seasons. JD DuBois was previously an assistant coach with the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. Schuyler Rimmer comes to the Lakers from the Philadelphia 76ers, where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons. Zach Peterson has spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors.
